Output is a product of input

Duh. I know that title is just stupid obvious but sometimes it’s easy for me to forget. I’m only going to get a product that’s as good as the materials I use to build it.

Lately I’ve been thinking about inputs. As in, what we put in our brains. We are so connected and stimulated all the time and all this information we are constantly taking in influences us to varying degrees. The other day I was watching Real Housewives of New Jersey while I was folding laundry and as they were screaming at each other, Jack walked up and started staring at the TV. I decided to turn it off because I don’t want that kind of hateful influence being introduced to him already.

And then I thought what a hypocrite I was being. You know, if I feel like something is bad for Jack to take in, maybe it’s not so good for me either. I know  there are things we can be exposed to that we want to shield our kids from but I really had no excuse on this one. There’s nothing positive for me in that show. I’m not saying I’m only going to watch Veggie Tales every day, but I think I do need to pay more attention to what I’m feeding my spirit and my mind.

I posted the other day about feeling like God was telling me to start getting up earlier in the morning to spend time with Him before the day started. Well, every morning since then, I have woken up before the crack of dawn. On my own with no alarm. He is very persistent. It really does help me to take that time each morning before the mood of the day is even determined and to make the Bible and worship music my first influence and input of the day.

This morning Jack and I went to MOPS for the first time. I really enjoyed myself. I was a little hesitant because it is right when Jack would normally be napping but I decided to go for it. Poor little feller passed out as soon as we got in the car but he was laughing on the way out (because I was galloping to the car in the rain) so I guess he wasn’t too traumatized. I think those ladies will be another good influence in my life. I encourage any moms to check for MOPS groups in their areas! Some groups even meet at times when working moms might be able to make it so don’t think if you have a job outside the home that it won’t work for you.

Okay, I’m going to go do my chores now! Everyone have a great day! Don’t buy a pumpkin spice cappuccino from the gas station even if it’s raining where you are and you ran out of coffee at home. Trust me.
